A day in Bucharest |
Arrived in Bucharest together with poets from Slovania and Poland. Extremely hot and humid, just like Tokyo in August.
Met with Claudiu Komartin and his girl friend, Laura, at 3 pm in the center city.
They took me to a poetry cafe "S.A.L.T." where the poetry lovers get togehter every Thursday and read / discuss. This evening, we had readings from a Romanian poet and Swedish poet. At the end of the session, I was also reading: today's newspaper published a few poems of mine in Romanian as a kind of promotion for the festival, so I read (and sang) in Japanese and English, and Claudiiu read the Romanian translations from the newspaper.
Back in the hotel around 9 pm and met Philip Meersman (see "Beagle" Vol 2) for the first time in 2 years. Had a glass of wine together and talked a lot of silly things. Just like 2 school girls.
At 10 pm, out to the central Bucharest again to meet another old friend Ana. She told me amazing stories of her life which happened during the past several months: love, death, closing down the publishing business after ten years, and her possible
emmigration to Central Africa.
What a day! Feels like a week already.
